Remove hard lock
Hard lock keeps Web Lock installed in your browser. Removing it takes a couple of minutes and needs an admin account on the computer. Web Lock stays installed with all your settings, and you can then remove it like any other extension.

Download the removal file
It deletes the one setting hard lock added, and nothing else. If Chrome asks whether to keep the file, choose Keep.

Open it from your Downloads folder
Windows asks the same questions as when hard lock was set up:
- Sometimes, "The publisher could not be verified". Click Run.
- "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?" The app is Registry Editor, which comes with Windows. Click Yes. If you're not on an admin account, type the admin password here.
- "Adding information can unintentionally change or delete values…" Click Yes.
- A message that the keys and values were added. Click OK.
Windows warns about the file because it isn't code-signed yet, which is common for apps from small teams. If you'd like to check it first, open it in Notepad and read it.

Restart Chrome
Close every Chrome window, then open it again.
What happens next
Web Lock can now be turned off or removed from Chrome's extensions page, like any other extension. If that page still asks for the Web Lock password, that's a separate setting: turn off Ask for my password on the extensions page in Web Lock's settings, under Uninstall protection.
Still can't remove it?
Restart the computer and try again. If Web Lock still says it's installed by your administrator, email [email protected] and tell us which computer and browser you use. We'll help you sort it out.
No admin account?
Hard lock can only be removed by someone who can sign in as an admin on the computer. That's what makes it hard to get around. Ask whoever set it up.
